Irons miracle is required

An Irons miracle is required in the winter window with West Ham‘s desperate need for a striker has now been exacerbated big time by the injury anxieties surrounding Mikey Antonio. Our number nine  disappeared at haste down the tunnel after 19 minutes of the game between Jamaica and Canada last night (Sat). Whether he should have been involved in a game during a competition his nation were not going to win is another question. The fact remains that from all we hear he could be missing for some important games. Even if he isn’t we still need a striker MORE than urgently.

It’s been said by some already that we should see it as a blessing in disguise as it may give Divin Mubama more opportunities . Frankly I’m not convinced. Mike’s form has been less than dodgy over recent games but form can return and his absence leaves us vulnerable should others find themselves in the sick room.

The bigger question is why the scenario was not addressed a long time ago when the money was available to buy a decent striker. We have seen two brought in by David Moyes during his time with us – Jordan Hugill and Gianluca Scamacca who played a total of 19 games between them – three in the case of Hugill – who, by the way, has had six clubs since leaving the mighty Irons!

Not great is it. Not great at all particularly as  the manager and everybody else knw Mikey is at the veteran stage who again became No 1 after he had bought and sold Scamacca at another big loss following one troubled season. This is called very poor management! Let’s hope and pray that technical director Tim Steidten and David Sullivan can produce that miracle we now require
