With 8 days left before the 2nd September deadline the transfer window looks to have a nail-biting ending for West Ham fans already coming to grips with twelve player departures since May’s relegation.
A new report this afternoon in thesun.co.uk claims Crystal Palace are out to steal West Hams skipper following his sides’ disastrous start to the season and the lack of clarity in West Ham’s boardroom.
Few supporters could blame Bowen after the promises made during the Kretinsky – Gold alliance of June have largely evaporated and player sales have seen the side transformed – and not in a good way.
Nuno’s nasty little habits of playing team members out of position and trying in vain to park the bus have won him few admirers and even fewer points. According to the sun:
“CRYSTAL PALACE are preparing to launch an audacious £50million bid to lure Jarrod Bowen back to the Premier League.
The West Ham skipper, 29, pledged to stay at the club this season despite relegation to the Championship – and signed a new contract… But that is not putting off Palace, who are preparing to sell current right winger Ismaila Sarr.
The Hammers’ financial woes are no secret – and selling their captain would go a long way towards easing that pressure.”
In these days of players downing tools and forcing through sales, whilst Bowen would never resort to such tactics, you have to wonder whether Kretinsky’s promises made to West Ham’s captain back in June have now gone west along with his shareholder majority for the time being.
And, consequently, whether Bowen may have second throughs about abandoning ship whilst the HMS West Ham United is drifting rudderless, adrift in a stormy Championship sea.
The Premier League looks mighty inviting right now.
