Moyes refuses to discuss his West Ham future
Moyes refused to be drawn into speculation on his future saying after the match on Saturday “Well no because we’re not safe yet are we? So until we get in a position where we sort of completely there, and even if we were…I think we are getting into the last week now so I’ve always said that I will never be doing anything ‘til after the end of the season and that won’t change.”
On Friday he criticised a culture of leaked stories at West Ham which was seen by some as a dig at the board and their openness. He wrote in his London Standard column it is a culture he would love to change. He is also aware of a large social media swing against him in online polls which indicate that supporters don’t think he can take the club any further.
In reality, the board’s options are limited, there is not an abundance of quality managers available this summer and the most likely outcome is he will be offered a one or two-year extension. A club insider previously told C&H ‘the board not consider replacing Moyes with a manager with inferior experience or record just to satisfy fans’. Of course, Moyes himself could have the last laugh and turn down the job offer but I think he still has a point to prove to the world of football and there doesn’t appear to be a queue of clubs to offer him alternative offers.
