Nuno’s third man highlighted as unlikely season saviour for West Ham

Somewhat surprisingly the West Ham player tipped to be pivotal in the relegation battle in a report today is one who would not be near the top of any fan’s ‘likely match winner’ list with the absent Crysenico Summerville and industrious Jarrod Bowen being the probable headline grabbers between now and May.

Even with the return of Pablo Felipe and the likely recall of Taty Castellanos to the Irons’ starting eleven this evening against Manchester City, West Ham’s veteran striker Callum Wilson is tipped to be the difference in the club’s struggle to escape the drop – largely as part 0f the star’s ‘payback’ for being awarded another year’s full contract.

Fans are now 100% behind Wilson after their initial hesitancy – and the uplift the club has from fielding three fit strikers will be enough to see them escape the drop.

At least that is the claim from footballinsider247.com who suggest, in particular,  the 33 year old likely feels a debt of gratitude and will now go all – in to repay the trust placed in him:

“He’s [Nuno] got his two new forwards that they’ve signed at West Ham as well. So he’s got some options there. But I think that, yeah, I think Callum would say, okay, I’ll finish the season strong for you..“We’ll try and avoid relegation, but I do want a deal for next year, and it seems like he’s got it.

I think Nuno has now got as good an armoury as he can possibly get to try and evade the drop.

Callum Wilson’s accepted as being one of the players that the fans are getting behind as well.”

No doubt Wilson has been accepted – and he’ll be ‘revered’ if he can step up with a couple more crucial goals in the latter stages of games between now and May.

Wilson tipped to grab crucial goals and ‘repay’ the new contract he’s received as a Hammer.

No question that fans – me included- were deeply sceptical of David Sullivan’s “freebie” signing in the summer.
Callum Wilson had missed two full seasons in the last five years at Newcastle so West Ham fans were rightly cautious  – especially after the Niclas Fullkrug injury saga.

The former Magpies forward does appear to be proving that age is no obstacle. He’s not running around like a 20 year old but has proven he can be in the right place at the right time and still has the technique and football brain to influence games.

Which, with Taty and Pablo able to do the ‘heavy lifting’, is all West Ham need just now: The ‘third’ striker could indeed turn out to become a very unlikely season saviour.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.
