West Ham’s £2 million capture from Portugal – young Xande Silva – grabbed a debut hat-tick as the under 23s beat Spurs 3-1 at Stevenage tonight.
The youngster was one of the club’s least publicised captures but took no time at all in creating a serious impression on watching assistant Hammers boss Ruben Ruben Cousillas.
Manuel Pellegrini’s number two could hardly have been more impressed with a six minute hat-trick which saw the 21 year old equalise an early strike by Samuel Shashoua.
His first was a powerful 43rd minute drive from a difficult angle; the second a 46th minute one on one with the keeper which he put away having flashed by a defender earlier in the move and the third another from a tight angle on 49 minutes.
Pellegrini made it clear on Silva’s arrival from Vitoria that he would be unleashed on the under 23s whilst closely monitoring his progress which he followed up by sending Cousillas to watch him tonight.
And on his arrival the 21 year old said: “It’s a big dream of mine to play here in England. This is a club with a big history, with very good fans and I’m very excited to be here.”
