The Premier League summer transfer window opened on 16th May and closes on 8th August. Most players contracts run until the end of June meaning clubs are usually not keen to start paying for their new players until 1st July.  That is the case for West Ham’s three new summer signings in Roberto, David Martin and Pablo Fornals who all officially become Hammers at the beginning of July.

Many players are still aboard on holiday with families not scheduled to return until July, 7th July to be precise for West Ham players.

Others not on holiday are still playing in Tournaments. In the case of Copa America in Brazil in which Maxi Gomez is playing that doesn’t culminate to a final until 7th July with the final.

The European U21 Championships in which Pablo Fornals does not complete with a final until 30th June in Italy.

The African Cup of Nations in Which Arthur Masuaku is playing doesn’t finish until 19th July in Egypt.

Any players playing in tournaments will receive contracted extra holidays before returning to their clubs pre-season training.

The Maxi Gomez transfer has all the hallmarks of the Felipe Anderson signing last summer who eventually signed on 15th July 2018.
