Byram making his right back case!

Sam Byram ...growing up

Sam Byram …growing up

Sam Byram drew a lot of excited comments on Saturday at a time when social media comments are regularly calling for the club to sign a new right back.

But such was the quality of the defender’s performance perhaps this won’t be necessary after all.

Speaking about his return Byram said:“I was glad to get the start after the last match. I’m still trying to find my feet with regards match-fitness, because I’ve not played a lot since my injury, so I think I’m growing as a player in the team.

“I’m just enjoying my football at the minute and look forward to every game. I want to play as much as I can, but the squad needs strength in depth and whoever we bring in will challenge whoever is in that position.

“I’m confident in my ability that I can play in this division and in this team and bring something to the squad. I’m just focusing on my game and hopefully I’ll get to keep playing.”

With 16 games left Byram said: “WhenI was out I looked at the fixtures and thought I would be back in mid-January and there are still a lot of fixtures to come,”

. “I’m an optimistic person and try to keep smiling and will just stay positive and keep working hard.”

  1. If he keep’s getting game time, he’ll continue improving imo.
He needs to try and cut down on the yellow cards though.

  2. We still need another one.

    • Agree totally HB.👍
But do we now buy a primary RB, with Byram reverting to backup, or do we keep giving him game time and buy backup for Byram?
As there doesn’t appear to be too many ‘established’ RB’s available at the moment, I would suggest the latter.

  3. Go all out for Iorfa and let them compete. Similar age and potential and as long as they are competing against eachother they will both put in a shift.

  4. Ivanovic at RB would sure up the leaky defence!! And he’s available.
