CandH talk to Talksport

|

After another day of media frenzy focusing on West Ham, their fans, the London Stadium, the owners and Karren Brady. ClaretandHugh Associate editor Sean Whetstone called up Talksport radio station to try to balance up some of the biased media attention which has beset our club in recent weeks.

You can hear the full interview from Talksport Sportsbar with Andy Goldstein and Jason Cundy from last night.

You will be accused of being the club mouthpiece Sean. All because you dont buy into the negative bull spilling from our fans elswhere.

  • Eddie, as West Ham fans we have been through worst haven’t’ we?, I have never suggested the move or the London stadium is perfect yet. But I am personally convinced we will get through this and things will drastically improve. As I said on the interview, results on pitch are not helping the situation.

    • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Well done Sean, you handled yourself really well, that Andy seems to have pretty thin skin, good work 🙂

    • Eddie says:

You are correct there Sean, results are not helping. But the monotonous negativity spilling from some blogs is not helping either. As i mentiond lastnight these blogs & our irrational fans phoning shows are giving other clubs fans a bloomin’ field day.The big mouths are giving them a laugh a minute & unfortunately its at all of our expense not just the big mouths.

  • Radai Lama...Rises From The Ashes says:

Some of our fans need to get a grip & spend more time supporting the team instead of channeling all their energy into finding ways to slag the club.Yeah we all know & have personally had a few issues since the move but no one wants to listen to us moaning about it all the time.
the moaning seems more important to some supporters now than getting behind the boys on a matchday.Mind you most of the moaning seems to come from those who have never even been to the LS lol 🙂

  • GW says:

Whatever’s said it won’t matter to some fans! Anything for a a good old moan and a day of *****ing floats there boat no doubt there will be a new article about a pie giving them ecoli or how the new seats gave one of them piles or how the salmon served in the corporate box was bland and served with the wrong veg 🙂

    • Eddie says:

Another day for the samaritans to be on standby due to the influx of calls coming from Irons fans with nothing better to do than trawl the web looking for negative stories to relay to their fellow manics.I wonder if there is any chance of some of the biggest moaners ever actually going to the stadium or do they prefer to dismantle the club from a distance???

      • GW says:

Eddie there are fans out there who can’t wait to say “I told you so” to make themselves out to be the font of all knowledge. Have a read of one individual over there who from day one never wanted the move, who calls Sean a stooge and a company man and who’s now loving every minute of the issues which is truly pathetic

        • RickHammer says:

Well that ‘i told you so’ is fine when you are saying it to your fellow stadium dislikers but the problem is that they think they speak for the masses & no matter how much they dont like it there are many who have actually managed to move on & get on with supporting the team at the LS.We aint all sat in a timewarp cuddling a teddy crying about not being at UP anymore.

  • Michael Miller says:

I think a lot of the negative stuff around the new Stadium have been blown up out of all proportion – the Standing Issue has already almost died down completely and all like minded guys seem to have been put where they don’t bother other punters so much.

The violence was always a minor issue – I’ve been to every game except Accrington and I’ve never seen any violence, the only thing I’ve seen is a fan having a row with a Steward which was just the fan being a bit lary.

The finances of the Stadium and West Ham’s only financial position are a grey area which I don’t really understand. West Ham’s debt position is a mystery, will it ever be sorted out?
The positive thing is that West Ham moving into the Stadium has saved it from becoming a White Elephant like so many previous Olympic venues – the ‘Legacy’ claims of people like Seb Coe and Tessa Jowell were complete nonsense and West Ham have saved them from being a complete embarrassment.

Karen Brady’s comments yesterday were taken out of context and people are only too happy to sieze on her words and twist them, maybe she needs some PR advice and to play down the triumphalism a bit.

  • RickHammer says:

I’m loving all the hypocrisy flying about it is funny. All these fans who ripped us to shreds over Hippo now running the whole club down not just a manager lool. These fans should try supporting the team on the pitch instead of letting sh#t flow out of their mouths about rebranding & coporate this, corporate that..
I mean come on how mental do you have to be to get so worked up about the word ‘London’ being put on a football badge. The only saving grace is that most fans dont give a flying only the obsessives.

  • baddowhammer says:

Nicely held together Sean, although they tried to back you into a corner once or twice.Well said pal, about Karen Brady.Which type of supporter trashes your own club, don’t like then fek off. COYI

  • PopRobson says:

I bet if we were sitting in the table where the Spuds are most of this noise about the stadium would go away.

  • Bil155 says:

Fair play to you you did hold your own but they did have you on the ropes about the 200 million but exactly how much was the Boleyn sold for ? I am and always have been against the moved to the stadium and I am not happy about it that’s life tho but before everyone gets on their high horse I am a season ticket holder and have been for many many years. Also remember Brady wanted to rename us West Ham Olympic !

  • Eug says:

I would like to say a BIG thank you to Sean Whetstone for the work he is doing to assist in the teething problems with the new stadium. Instead of just sitting back and moaning and slagging of everything and everybody, which is what a lot of so called supporters are doing, he is working hard to put things right. His interview on Talk Sport was excellent.
About time somebody put the truth across and not the rantings of a load of moaning whingers. I was born 1 1/2 miles from the ground and have lived all my adult life within 4 miles of Upton Park. The move makes total sence on every level. I have attended every game at the London Stadium and the match day experience is way better than Upton Park was. Maybe not the Upton Park of 30 years ago when everyone lived local to the ground. But for the last two decades 95% of the fans have moved away to Essex or further. The local’s at Upton Park now have no connection with the club what so ever.
So the move around the corner with a larger more modern stadium with far better transport links and amenities makes total sense. Thank God with have someone like Sean that is putting in the work in a common sense manner. Again Thank you.

    • Eddie says:

Well said Eug,its all too easy to sit there trying to create your own mini revolution from the security of your armchair but fans like Sean & others walk the walk not just talk the talk even if he does get stick for it.Great points & post fella.Big thumbs up from me
