Mooro & Bilic was not the same as Payet request

RonInevitably comparisons have been made by non West Ham supporters of the time Slaven Bilic wanted to leave West Ham for a ‘bigger club’ namely Everton and Bobby Moore tried desperately to leave West Ham for Spurs in 1966 before winning the world cup with England.

While both facts are true, both players were professional and stayed at West Ham when they were told no by the managers at the time.

In the case of Bobby Moore, he stayed for another eight years after twice being rejected a move to Spurs by Ron Greenwood. He was offered a £10,000 signing on bonus for joining the North London rivals. Did he sulk or go on strike? No, he kept his disagreement with Greenwood private even losing out again on a a signing bonus in 1974 when he joined Fulham for £25,000 instead of the free transfer that was promised him by West Ham.

BilicRedknappThe papers have dragged up a 1997 quote from Harry Redknapp how ‘bitter and angry’ it was after his highest paid player, Slaven Bilic wanted to leave for Everton. However, Slav went on to play for the remainder of the season to keep West Ham up. Bilic said at the time he had a debt of loyalty to keep the Hammers from relegation. The £4.5m the Hammers received from Everton allowed West Ham to buy John Hartson who ensured success the following season. Again Bilic didn’t strike or refuse to train, he stayed on another six months out of loyalty to the the West Ham badge and his manager.

We all understand that players careers are short and the majority do not have the same passion we have as fans for our great club but there are ways to leave and Payet’s demands and actions fall a long way short on what is considered acceptable in modern football for a professional.

  1. Comparisons have been made by NON WEST HAM SUPPORTERS..Are you sure Sean. I have seen a couple of numbnuts who are our fans try to compare the Bilic situation to Payet.

  2. I recall that Geoff Hurst wanted £100pwk after his World Cup hat trick. West Ham gave him £99pwk. I assume Mooro was on a similar level? If so his request to leave was for financial necessity to set up his family. Hardly comparable with Payet who was on twelve hundred and fifty times the amount Moore was on. Not to stay until the summer after pocketing £1m bonus is taking the p….ss

  3. Sean, send your article to Adrian Durham and Darren Gough at TalkSport radio who have been wielding their wooden spoons with this story this afternoon.

  4. Well i was only a teenager when Bilic left but i can remember being at his last Upton Park match & he got a good round of applause at the end of the game as i recall.
I certainly dont remember having any resentment towards him,not like i will have for Fat Frog 😁

  5. This all makes a lot more sense now when Deschamps said this about Payet being excluded from the French Squad.Especially the last line 😉

“It does not bother me, the players can say what they want. I will not pour myself over the media in order to respond to them.

This is not the first time or the last time. He is in training, I speak with him and tell him what I expect of him on the pitch. After that he understands, either he does it or he doesn’t do it

He has the right not to understand, that is not my problem. Dimitri is a quality player, who performs well for his clubs. He is good in a certain position and I am here to judge.

For France, the demands are greater. Everyone deserves a shot in life. But I do not have only lambs. I have players with character.”

    • Yes I didn’t believe it at the time but it seems in hindsight he was right, I wonder if he will be picked again by France now this situation has come to light… I don’t see him being sold if he is starved of playing time eventually because of his weak character he will break, then we can see what happens next. It doesn’t look like Marseille are going to offer sufficient money to make us sell and as Domenech said they don’t need Payet they need a defence. It will be nice personally speaking if when the window closes he is still here training with the youth team and forced to make a grovelling apology to us supporters and his teammates for his disgraceful behaviour and the amount of points he has cost us this season with his lack of effort. Tevez did a similar thing at City but then when he made his apologies he came back and pretty much won them the title, it might not seem like it but like City we can afford to let him rot, it is down to him what happens next but if he is holding out for Marseilles it could be a long wait 😀

      • Its official im done discussimg Fat Frog. His representatives are playing a blinder here to make him snow white.Give it a day or two & some of our fans will be having a whip round to pay for his flight so he isnt out of pocket ffs 😂

  6. So he ain’t gone yet? Guess that means we’ve got another month of blame the board, blame Slav and blame the stadium for him leaving talk then? 🙂

    • I am probably mistaken GW but perhaps their have been some pennies dropping (not in Payet’s bank) over this whole sorry affair, COYI !!!

    • I must admit when i saw the interview with him talking about Marseille in mid December & he said “i would never close the door” it wasnt exactly the words of a man desperate to get back there for family reasons.
Oh well folk will believe what they like in the end.Personally speaking im not swallowing the family reason spin as the main driver in the move.

  7. As i said do you really think two level headed decent guys like Bilic & Noble are angry with him because of family reasons.I would have thought quite the opposite they seem like men who would be extremely sympathetic if it was the case.
Nah he has got their backs up for more than a family issue, dont give me that old crap 😂
Whats his agents next line,he isnt at training because he is spending a week visiting patients in hospitals to brighten their lives up ffs😁

    • I totally agree Lama about Noble. There is no way he would have not talked to Payet for two or three weeks if this was a family problem issue. That is ridiculous to believe..though some will im sure of that.
Each to their own as the saying goes.

      • Of course now the West Ham Fans hierachy have decieded its for family reasons i will have to bow to their superior knowledge & become Payets biggest fan again 😂😂

  8. I was watching the Sky update on it.One thing for sure his agent has been on a really good charm offensive with that reporter.I dont know how he squares up Payet taking a 30% paycut to just under 100k,he is only on a basic of 65/70k with us isnt he.I wish i could take a pay cut like that.
It would certainly appear his agent has been earning his corn to make Payet come out of this with the least collateral damage as possible. The only crying shame is that fans will fall for it.

  9. Yeah Col he is playing a blinder.Latest update i got is that Payets agent has said Fat Frog is going to buy every Irons fan a kitten or puppy depending on their preference 😁😁
