West Ham to appeal FA charge

LanWest Ham will appeal the FA charge against Manuel Lanzini before the 6pm deadline today. Manuel Lanzini was charged by the FA for deceiving a match official in the Hammers 3-0 win at Stoke on Saturday and faces a two-match ban if found guilty.

The Argentine won a penalty in the 18th minute having gone to ground following a challenge from Stoke defender Erik Pieters. The news means the Argentine will eligible to play in tonight’s League cup game against Arsenal at the Emirates but faces missing league games against Newcastle and Bournemouth if the appeal fails.

A club insider confirmed to Claret and Hugh this morning that the club intends to file an appeal.

The appeal will go in front of the FA Independent Regulatory Commission often called the three wise men.

Yesterday the Lanzini incident was reviewed by an FA panel comprising a former manager, an ex-player and former referee, who watched the footage independently. They unanimously agreed that Lanzini deceived the match official leading to the FA Charge.

  1. Will this meeting be a case of the ‘3 wise men’ or the 3 ‘not so wise monkeys’?
Given the circumstances, the FA should have an alternative mechanism of punishment to a 2 match ban, especially in such borderline situations..why not just fine the player and/or club?

  2. No chance. And now we will lose him for more league games. Do the club not realise this is the PL’s pet project? Look at us doing something about all that nasty diving business-aren’t we just great. In the small print it says ‘except when those really brilliant teams at the top do it- that’s different innit? Then diving is just a way of making sure they win. And anyway if we suspend their players Sheikh Whatsit will probably sue us. And Pep would probably cry. ‘

It is true he is falling before he hits the defender’s leg. But it is also true that he would have gone into it if he had stayed upright. So the expert panel know – absolutely know- that Lanzini intended to fall over, but they can’t be sure the defender was intending to trip him up?

    • Agree I would like to appeal on the fact that as been worse dives over the season & over the weekend. Niasse & him are picked out & were axriallt going full speed & contacted. City don’t need to dive & they are some of the worst offenders. Morata Delph Sterling they all sis it to is & Manu did it to help us win & get out bottom 3.
But the FA is a joke either do it across the board w every player or get rid of the retrospective bans. Bc players when about toget tripped to plan their fall to prevent injury.

      But they rarely get overturned
So I’d rather just lose Lanzini for Cup game & Newcastle instead of 2 league games.

And Alli’s tackle on KDB was malicious nothing KDB also dived. Not biased right ffs.
And Manu had is beat game all season

  3. he dived. end of. 3 game ban coming up.

  4. Madness to appeal.

He gained an advantage from a dive. The decision will be upheld. He should not be playing tonight anyway, so that would mean he would only miss Newcastle.

We cannot afford for him to miss PL games we have a good chance of winning.

Imagine the points lost drawing or losing v Bournemouth making the difference in a relegation battle – unthinkable!

    • Agree it’s not fair & the 2 Bans on dives they have made are not even worst I’ve seen over weekend let alone over all season.
But won’t be overturned very slim chance so at least let’s have him for Bournemouth bc he was in best form all season in that game & that is the Manu who can really help moves us up the league.

  5. I think that we are correct to appeal. Yes Lanzini is already going down but then there is contact and Lanzini’s body changes direction. Contact and change of direction would still have happened if Lanzini had not have fallen

  6. So unless it’s pointed out on MOTD, you don’t get banned. OK. Got it. All for stopping the divers, but why be selective. Same rules should apply to all. Still can’t work out why, if the ref sees it on the day it’s a possible yellow. If the ref doesn’t it’s a two game ban. Why the difference???
