Another transfer story, another winger mentioned – despite West Ham having neither the personnel to negotiate deals at present nor, after Kretinsky’s pronouncement, the burning financial requirement to orchestrate the wholesale dismantling of last seasons’ relegated squad.
The speculation around Crysencio Summerville and the departure of winger Adama Traore seems to be fuelling the latest crop of transfer talk but this one, at least, has the credentials to be taken seriously.
As speculation around Summerville grows and his World Cup performances continue to wow audiences, the likelihood of his summer departure grows along with the expected transfer fee.
At which point West Ham will need new wingers.
ExWHUEmployee suggests that the Hammers are already looking at Everton’s Dwight McNeil, after an underwhelming season with the Toffees last time out, just one goal involvement in 22 appearances making him ripe for a drop down to the Championship.

Former Burnley man McNeil is exactly the profile of winger West Ham seek for a promotion push
Of course, whether the player agrees is another matter altogether, but as a left sided forward, his presence would add hugely to Nuno’s options going forward so, if Summerville’s sale does progress later in the window, McNeil could be exactly the kind of experienced pro the Hammers would seek to bring in to bolster their wide options.
Whether or not former Burnley player McNeil will still be available once the World Cup tournament is done and dusted – along with a potential Summerville sale – is another matter altogether.
What an horrific signing this would be, I’m amazed anyone thinks this bloke is the answer to any question we might offer up. He hardly contributes with goals or assists for the team as you yourself highlight Martin and I think it’s a bit of a stretch expecting him to help lead a promotion charge, I’m not suggesting we will be bringing in world beaters as I realise we’re in a proper mess, but we can and should do better than this
There is more positivity around the club with the Kretinsky and Sullivan situations but how bad is it being in the championship and having to look at players like this.
Spurs got lucky with Villa and Everton not turning up and our shocking approach at Newcastle and look who they are being linked with – we could so easily be roles reversed.
Likewise watching the World Cup knowing virtually no one can be a West Ham target.
It could take a long time to build back up to where we once were, let’s hope Kretinsky does the right things consistently and supports the process.
