How we rated the Irons v Man City

|

Hugh hands out his marks

Fabianski: Little to do in the first half but apart from an unstoppable equaliser he was outstanding on three or four occasions in a nerve wracking second 45. 8

Couval: What a signing at £4 million. Great cross for Antonio’s goal and excellent at both ends of the pitch although found out a little by Foden in second half 7+

Balbuena: Never put a foot wrong – he must be starting to convince the manager with some decent performances 7+

Ogbonna: Magnificent throughout with some seriously important interventions in the second half 8+

Cresswell: Another very decent performance from a guy who is back to his best 7+

Rice: The usual top performance: broke stuff up, defended well and went close with one shot over the bar 8+

Soucek: Brilliant at the heart of midfield – keeping everything ticking and played important part in the goal 8+

Masuaku: Spent a lot of time defending and did it very well but always looked menacing when getting offensive 7

Bowen: Quite outstanding in the first half when all the danger came through him beyond the goal, also always proving a pressure relieving outlet. Was switched into the central role when Antonio went off before being subbed himself a little later 9

Fornals: Plenty of work rate but seems to miss an outstanding chance per match and could have claimed the winner with a misjudged chip 6+

Antonio: Totally magnificent goal and an absolute menace until having to go off and that played a part in City’s second half performance 9+

Subs:

Haller: Contributed very little during a very subdued performance 3

Yarmolenko: Always busy – one shot which didn’t come down soon enough but little beyond that 4

I actually think Arthur was our best player today, he stopped so many counters and attsckes throughout the match

A good manager uses his bench well and gets the best out of his players. I think Moyes is very poor on the first test and is average at the second. But, at last we no longer roll over when under pressure.

How yarmo could get a higher mark than haller is a mystery, was the worst showing he has put in, whilst haller didn’t do much wrong with the little he had considering how on the back foot we were when he came on and how poor yarmo was offered him little while fornals was playing too deep to offer any service… usual haller bashing sadly

Hard to disagree with the marks Hugh, Yarmouth tried hard but I think they will laugh when they debrief that game about just how much went wrong for him. He will come back though and kept showing for the ball despite his constant blunders. Good signs and a great performance the like of which we haven’t seen in a very long time. To be honest am more confident against Liverpool than I was against City and looking forward already to that match COYII!!!

Coufal Man of the Match for me.

Fornals & Masuaku need to learn to retain possession when hanging onto to a slender lead!

Moyes substitutions are always poor & often too late in the match.
