Krisztian Hegyi

The academy had a proud evening on Saturday when its two keepers were in direct opposition in the Under-17 World Cup in Brazil.

U18s stoppers Krisztian Hegyi (Hungary) and Daniel Jinadu (Nigeria) found themselves in confrontation as the two teams kicked off in Goiânia.

It was five-time champions Nigeria U17s who ran out 4-2 winners in an enthralling encounter, with both goalkeepers called into action several times and responding with smart saves.

Hungary held a 2-1 lead until late on, but Nigeria took advantage of their tiring opposition as three late goals decided the Group A match.

Saturday’s victory sees Nigeria head straight to the top of Group A, with Hungary in fourth place.

Hegyi and Jinadu have split time in goal for West Ham U18s so far this season, with both players impressing under lead coach Kevin Keen.
