Benrahma stars as Hammers complete clean sweep

|

Irons 2 Atalanta 0

Said Benrahma was the star of the show as the Hammers deservedly brushed their way to victory making it a clean sweep of seven pre-season victories.

The former Brentford player was a constant scourge to the Italians – setting up both goals and smashing a volley against the crossbar.

His link-up play with Mikey Antonio was outstanding and it was from a clever dinked ball from him into the box that saw the No 9 slid home the first goal bang on half time.

And right at the end of the 90 minutes a brave downward header from sub Fredericks’ cross found Fornals who made no mistake.

With Declan and Hammer of the year Tomas Soucek back in the midfield we dominated the first period and thoroughly deserved a lead given the quiet afternoon experienced by the back four.

The Italians saw a couple of shots go wide but there were never any real alarms on a day when Benny showed that he’s on fire and more than ready for the new season.

So a perfect build up to the new season with Conor Coventry and Ben Johnson catching the eye again when they arrived as second half subs.

We need new players of course but the squad looks fit, sharp and ready as it heads into a season of rich promise.
