Blackburn Rovers 2- 1 West Ham | Boos and ironic cheers highlight massive concern

THERE was an ironic cheer from the West Ham away supporters at about 88 minutes, which considering their team was 2- 1 down and looking clueless was even more remarkable.

The cheer was for Mads Hermansen finally making a save, with a shot hit straight at him being pretty much the first time he’d connected with anything, as another two goals had found their way under and past the hapless Dane.

7000 West Ham fans had made the trip to Blackburn in expectation of a triumphant start to Parker’s era and yet saw their starting eleven dominate the ball but fail to score. Hermansen had dealt with a smattering of booing from his own fans ever since Rovers took the lead with a header that went between the Dane’s legs.

Times’ up, Mads. The big concern was that Scott Parker picked him ahead of Areola. We told him….

Hardly a confidence boost for the young keeper who surely should not have been selected in the first place.

No criticism through could be attached to Hermansen for Blackburn’s second goal but West Ham found themselves two goals behind, chasing the game and seemingly nothing to offer, back passing and fiddling around in the last few minutes.

Parker can have no excuse now for continuing to select his hapless keeper. The Dane plays as if he’s got arthritic knees (take it fromm one who knows) and doesn’t dive for anything, just collapsing to the left or right, week after week.

Whatever issue there may be with second-in-line Alphonse Areola, he simply has to start after the international break.

Otherwise, we may as well simply drape a goal keeper’s jersey on the cross bar: It’ll be about as effective.

The most frustrating thing? We called this, as did just about every West Ham fan: Hermansen is just not good enough.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Curse you Shaun Wright-Phillips.
I still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows another six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser.
Can tell I'm getting old knowing I watched both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old.
Magic.

No criticism can be attached for the second goal? I suggest you look at it again

I agree about our fans though, to me it came across as very entitled and disrespectful. You could see the players put in a shift, they just ran out of ideas and were frustrated by the opposition. The booing and the chants were misplaced and just wiped out any good feeling or momentum from the Cardiff game we had.

Two words sum up the dross that we are watching … KILMAN …HERMANSEN

Get rid now while there is still a chance of promotion .

MK and KM are a dreadful pairing but the keeper is truly awful I am not so sure he couldn’t do anything with their second goal as he just fell on his knees with his arms at his side. I’m no goal keeping expert, but I have a theory that to make a save you move your arms and hands towards the ball. I grant you it is a difficult concept to understand.
Let’s just hope Areola is reinstated and Disasi is so fed up at palace that he is prepared to do 5 months in the championship 🙏

The booing and chants of your not fit to wear the shirt disgust be. These people are not fit to be West Ham fans.

two seasons ago, we said the goalkeeper was horrendous.
who was playing in front of him, Maverpanos and KILMAN.
last first half of the season, areola was rubbish, who was playing in front of him, Maverpanos and KILMAN.
second half of season, change centre backs, keeper starts to look better (KILMAN dropped)
New season, back to the same two horrendous center back pairing, goals start shipping in and keeper looks horrendous.
come on , work it out ….
The keeper is poor, but they are horrendously exposed, Areola will be the same.

Embarrassing , we’re told West Ham supporters are some of the best in the land but booing our own player? Come on we’re better than that.
His confidence is shot and that’s hardly going help him.

  • John Ayris says:

We’re miles away from where we need to be. We never concede less than two and it’s often three, we’re losing to teams that are nowhere near the level that we need to be at.

Yet at sometime in every game we make the opposition look like schoolboys. It’s not that we can’t to it, it’s that we’re not doing it. Much more of it and we can wave by bye to any thoughts of automatic promotion.

  • kc says:

Face it, Martin; it is not just Hermansen, the whole team is just not good enough. If it was good enough, it would not have lost the games that it has lost !

  • Jimbo 2 says:

When you boys get an agenda you certainly stick to it. Relentlessly.

If you think this is gonna fix all our problems then fair play to you but our issues run a little deeper than our current GK.

    • John Mills says:

Totally agree. Issues are throughout the team and deeper into the club. So many of our players go away and excel at other clubs, ironically one scored and another assisted yesterday. There has been something endemic within the structure of our club. We are in decline in every facet, it’s going to take years if we ever recover, not a season.

  • Mick Bering says:

Martin having Kilman in front of you week in week out would turn the best keepers in the world into quivering wrecks. Strange how he suddenly improved when we had the Chelsea centre back for half a season on loan. speaks for itself I reckon Conceding 2=3goals every week is down to terrible defending and all-round team performance
