CandH Exclusive: Steidten jets off on Brazil player mission

|

West Ham director of football Tim Steidten flew directly to Brazil on a scouting mission, the club has revealed to Claret & Hugh.

As revealed earlier, Steidten is staying at West Ham as part of a long-term project, and he’s fully focused on improving the Hammers’ squad. Speaking to C&H this morning, the club’s top source revealed, “Tim’s flown out to Brazil and is watching four games.”

West Ham have been building links in Brazil for the past 12 months, and now Steidten is overseeing the work initially started by Rob Newman.

The Brazil market is a good one to invest in as it represents value for money. Once a South American player is signed by a European team, their value rockets, so there are hidden gems to be had if a club purchases directly from Brazil.

Steidten was the recruitment director under Simon Rolfes at Bayer Leverkusen and will be acutely aware of the quality available in South America. Piero Hincapie and Exequiel Palacios are hugely important members of Xabi Alonso’s squad, and their roster also boasts Brazilians and Colombians.

If the Hammers are following the Leverkusen model, then that’s no bad thing.
