C&H Exclusive: West Ham legend Devonshire on Lucas Paqueta

|

Lucas Paqueta scored the kind of goal against Liverpool which brought back memories of the truly great West Ham midfielder Alan Devonshire.

And even Dev himself reckons the screamer scored at The London Stadium last night was an absolute beauty.

The fabulous former attacking midfielders goes down withe the Likes of Sir Trevor as one of the best seen at our club and maybe Paqueta has started  following perhaps in his footsteps.

Devonshire believes Lucas Paqueta could follow in his footsteps

The Brazilian started and ended a move last night which gave the Hammers a lead against Klopp’s men and speaking exclusively to Claret and Hugh this afternoon Dev declared it an excellent strike.

He told us: “He could become a very good player indeed for us and it was a good goal. I saw it on the highlights and the lad clearly has a lot about him.”

As manager of Maidenhead FC in the Vanarama National League Dev hasn’t been able to see too much of his beloved Hammers this season but admits they are very different to the team in which he performed between 1976 and 1990 playing 358 games for 29 goals.

Alan Devonshire had his say on Lucas Paqueta

He believes the team will now stay up and retain their Premier League status but admits: “They do not play as the hammers team I was in did – in fact they are very different.”

Of the other supposed creative midfielder Said Benrahma he restricts himself to just two words: “He’s okay.”

Devonshire goes into his final game of the season this season at Maidenhead needing a win against Gateshead to ensure the club stays up and I for one hope the great man make it,
