Defender on a free? We’d be mad not to

Jacob Steinberg is a journalist with a solid grasp of West Ham affairs. As a Guardian sports writer and Hammers fan with excellent contacts within The London Stadium, he is a trusted source of information on the club.

So, when Steinberg mentions West Ham’s interest in a player, it’s reasonable to assume there’s truth behind it. His report that West Ham plans to pursue Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer this summer should be taken seriously.

He’s not alone in this assertion. West Ham’s insider, ExWHUEmployee, also verified the club’s interest in the former Manchester City midfielder, adding credibility to the rumour.

Tosin Adarabioyo-West Ham

For me, pursuing Adarabioyo is a no-brainer. He is a capable defender, homegrown, and available without a transfer fee. With a potential crisis looming in central defence, West Ham would be wise to consider him.

Given the need for a squad rebuild and the strict enforcement of Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, signing the Fulham centre-back could save significant funds for use in other areas of the team.
