Mavropanos Expected To Stay At West Ham

Reports linking Hammer of the Year Dinos Mavropanos with a move away from the club are wide of the mark, with the Greek international expected to stay at West Ham for at least one more season.

Both Leeds United and Premier League newcomers Coventry City have been linked over recent days, but insiders say those reports are wildly exaggerated, especially with Jean-Clair Todibo expected to leave, a move that would leave West Ham with just two senior centre-backs.

And with Nuno Espírito Santo staring down the barrel of a defensive shortage, the club is already eyeing the transfer market for a loan and a permanent signing to bolster the back line. Selling Mavropanos now? Not a chance.

Greek Defender Set To Play Key Role

Mavropanos is tied down until 2028, and while whispers claim he’s unhappy, the club has told him he’s an important squad figure for the upcoming Championship campaign. His future will likely be revisited next summer when he’ll be 29 with one year left on his deal, making a move far more probable.

Financially, the drop has been brutal. After pocketing £50k a week plus a £12,500 Premier League bonus, he’s now earning half that following relegation. But despite the pay cut, he’s still expected to be a major part of the rebuild.

The Greek defender played one half in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Colchester United and is tipped to feature again this weekend when the Hammers face Southend United.

What did Lampard quote us for his striker? £250m I think, well I think Coventry can pay similar for Dinos. Is Craig Dawson still fit? Bring him home 😊⚒️⚒️

All this talk of 50% deals am not convinced they are legit, Sullivan was known for his gentleman’s agreements which aren’t worth the paper they weren’t written on.

If he’s unhappy and wants to go he’s going surely? The championship is not a league a good level international player wants to play in and holding players that want to leave rarely works out well – like it or not.
Getting relegated was a disaster and it’s a bit arrogant to think we can hold on to the better players.
