Don’t blame Lopetegui | Here’s the proof

Much like British politics where the new government blames everything upon the mismanagement by the last lot, there is a tendency amongst the Potter apologists to blame everything on the previous head coach. And I counted myself in that category – wanting, wishing but excusing Potter’s shortcomings through a big dose of hyper optimism mixed with denial and the convenient excuse that it was ‘all Julen Lopetegui’s fault’.

Recent weeks have seen that narrative shift, however, as Potter’s continual timid, negative set-ups tactics and selections force even the most optimistic to look again at West Ham’s head coach and his achievements since his appointment.

A new league table produced by the people at football365.com absolutely skewers Potter’s performances. Showing each club’s Premier League performance solely using data since Potter started, the report illustrates all too clearly how bad Potter’s results are.

Ignoring what came before, West Ham sit in 17th spot just using the results since Potter began.

Potter’s thirteen points in thirteen games is relegation form and – it has to be said – contrasts with David Moyes’ Everton who have secured 21 points albeit in one more game. No blaming the ‘previous head coach’ anymore, without Lopetegui’s points, West Ham would be facing relegation right now.

No wonder Niclas Fullkrug called it Sh*t.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Loppy was harshly treated by board, players and even us. It wasn’t great at all under him, but he was sacked far too quickly for my liking.

Tok many players though that played under Moyes, Loppy and Potter along with the manager, all have a part to play, some of whom will probably not be with us next season.

We are a bang average premier league side who occasionally achieve things we wouldn’t normally expect but in the current situation, we, Spuds and Utd really need to thank our lucky stars that the three promoted teams weren’t good enough.

    The table does not lie.

The only way WEST HAM move forward is to back potter with serious funds to bring I. young ambitious players to resurect our team. Sullivan has always been the problem and will continue to be until he steps aside! He won’t elevate west ham to where they should be and it’s a crying shame !!!! SULLIVAN OUT !!

  • Kevlar says:

Any west ham season ticket holder who has watched west ham this season can’t argue with fulkrug? I don’t see many players putting a shift in only Bowen and wan bissaka fulkrug and scarles. We desperately need to get some fighters into our first eleven for sure!

  • Beyond caring now says:

If your digging out stats for the last 13 games have been relegation form then cast your mind back to our form from January to the end of the season under Moyes now that was serious relegation form as well.
The rot has been set in this squad for a long long time now, just face facts we aint West Ham anymore.
Does any West Ham fan actually enjoy there match day experience at the London Stadium ?
We died as a club when we left Upton Park and we will never get that special atmosphere back at that awful stadium….Cheers Sullivan you kunt

It seems the away teams that come to London Stadium enjoy their day out there which is never a good thing.

  • Hammerpete6 says:

Maybe the players are not all firing on all cylinders, and some (JWP) are not good enough. We are too slow through midfield into the top third, every time. But one thing I really blame Potter for was the shameful retreat into our penalty area in injury time, having subbed off attackers for defenders, and conceding against the worst team in the league. Very, very upset at full time. Then he talks about looking at it!!!

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

This is rubbish to be fair, Potter inherited an unmotivated bunch that were conceding more than two goals a game, was only able to get Evan Ferguson in on loan.

The problems predate Floppy to Moyes and the common denominator are the board, something’s definitely not right although only those inside the club can answer that.

Add to the mix that the players haven’t really had anything to play for, we weren’t getting relegated and not much chance without a good run of making it into Europe.

Like many have been disappointed nevertheless but am reserving judgement until Potter has had a window or two of recruitment to get in young hungry players that will play the pressing game his other teams have.

Measured analysis and correct assessment of our current situation and form.
It gets to a point when there is so much noise and toxicity, without proper, educated assessment by responsible, knowledgeable posters, that it descends into this mess.

Toxic sites encourage the toxic element. At this rate, we could change managers every couple of months. Start the fox hunt after he has had a couple of windows to get his players in, and do give them a chance to bed in, also.

I’m going to dip out of all this toxicity as I have better things to do

  • John Ayris says:

I was never at any point more than hopeful about Lopetegui, I wanted him to prove me wrong is the best way of summing it up. Terrible appointment.

I have expected more of Potter, it appears that his communication and man management are better than Lopetegui and we don’t look like we may lose by four or five any more… That said he has not been at all impressive, the results show that and the nature how the results happened show that.

We’re so slow and negative if more solid and I don’t see why that has not been addressed.

  • Ray says:

Absolute garbage Martin. Just state your opinion and stand by it. You don’t have to be right, just dependable, and like West Ham you flip flop all over the place. There was NOTHING good about Lopetegui. As others have said, the common denominator across all failed regimes is the ownership.

  • leon schwartz says:

I will say this until it changes, we are a championship side with a few good players. We are so lucky most of the prem is rubbish too. The only reality is to to sell almost everyone and just start fresh

    • Trevsheadwonthecup says:

Utter rubbish Bowen kudus pacqueta AWB Summerville todibo fulkrug walk into the vast majority of sides above us in the table . Let alone championship sides . There unmotivated that’s the issue and no surprise with Sullivan as chairman.

  • mark wiggins says:

Your missing the point Martin , the players are not performing Fullkrug made it clear the players did not follow his instruction . Sure Potter could be more positive as we have some good players . The point is all players need to commit to the plan and play as a team !

  • Simon says:

Oh for good WH news … und 18’s, 21’s or the ladies.
Sadly the mens 1st team is riddled with bad stats and news.
To cut a long story short, Sullivan + Brady should apologize and leave, and take this mess with them.
Based on reality Lopt did better with an unfit, injured players with bad attitudes.
The reported bust-up between Lopt + some players can be true, as Fullkrug’s disclosure hints at bad attitudes.
And Brady’s insistence also have now created the Potter mess.
And please dont say Potter will produce a better team next season, when he is unable to get more than a point -a – game, which was Fat Sam’s calculations to avoid the drop. Ending 17th at the end of this season, would also cause losses of millions for log position vs Lopt’.
So no, this Potter team, except a few, must all go with him and Brady. And take their bad attitudes with them.
Build from scratch with a West Ham blooded coach, and WH warriors. Thank you.
