West Ham have had their well-documented challenges in their reorganisation process this summer, trying to accomplish a top-down overhaul in a matter of weeks has meant playing catch up in key areas.
Having only just appointed their head of recruitment Nils Koppen within in the last week, the Irons were always likely to miss out on transfer targets with competitors in the Championship – and overseas- having a months’ head start.
Whether that has accounted for the Hammers missing out on a top midfielder target isn’t clear. What is known is that Sky Germany have reported today that Hamburg have nipped in and agreed terms with one of the Irons’ major targets:
“Hamburger SV have reached a full verbal agreement with 22 y/o Martin Adeline. A long-term contract has been agreed. However, there are still details to be resolved with Troyes. There is currently no green light for the medical. The transfer fee is expected to be below €6m. The deal is nevertheless close, post L’Équipe. Internally, #HSV view Adeline as the No. 8 they have been missing in their squad”

Bundesliga bound? Starting to look that way
Adeline had been tipped for a West Ham bid by several, including exWHUEmployee, but it seems that the Hammers will lose out for the Troyes talent.
The modest sum involved – about £5 million – will raise hopes that West Ham have chosen to head in another direction, rather than be outmuscled financially.
Of course the opportunity to play in German’s top tier was always going to weigh heavily on the young midfielders’ mind, compared with the less appealing merits of a Championship slog with West Ham.
From the sheer number of targets mentioned in recent transfer noise surrounding east London, you’d have to feel certain that the Irons have alternatives in mind.
What frustrates supporters is the apparent lack of progress with under five weeks until battle commences. Same as us, West Ham fans are desperate for news of real, tangible progress under the new regime who until now has “talked a very fine talk”, with everyone impatient to see them ‘walk the walk‘ to match.
Patience is not a West Ham fan’s biggest virtue. I should know after 56 years.
Expect more of this our new transfer guru is not as good as been said. Look at his record. closely The transfer window will be very slow so nothing will change believe me
No doubt we need a new signing in this area as have lost our star man and Soucek is out for a while. But don’t forget we have Kante, Magassa and Potts, all very capable players. Would rather we took our time and got in the right type of signing to compliment these. Yes we need to make a fast start but as we have seen in the past, so easy to waste money and regret it later.
Same as it ever was
One thing that gets ignored is visa requirements for overseas players. Every transfer rumor needs to have that qualification included. Beyond the ‘15 point’ system players who might not qualify – perhaps like this one – there is the ESC route. PL and Championship clubs are allowed 4 players under that system. How many do we have outstanding (Kante probably for a start) and how many are we planning to use for other players. Sometimes there are reasons we let players go elsewhere not tied to money.
Perhaps the Board and Nuno are still trying to get concrete answers from the will they / won’t they squad members as to whether they are up for the fight to get us back with the Big Boys!.
You’ve also got to remember that some have been away on international duty and are now on their “Holibobs.” Yes, I know it’s frustrating having to wait, but Rome wasn’t built in a day, and we have had an ultra busy few weeks since Sullivan evacuated the building 🎉🎉.
In Kretinsky we trust as he hasn’t done a bad job since taking control 👏👏.

I find it so funny that this site especially and other sites we no longer get our top source or a source close to the club says. Everything is under wraps until they get what they want. So we just have speculation and hear say that we’ve missed out on such and such a target. I never believed all the noise about transfers until I saw the player holding the shirt.
Never heard of him or seen any links previous links with West Ham, but if the asking price is less than £5m can’t be someone we’ll miss not signing
To slow yet again
Are you sure Sullivan is not in charge of this
This is signs of the usual transfer window from our owners, we are going for this player and that player but is total rubbish, made up to get the fans thinking that something is happening
I hope we are not going to have the last minute hasbeens that no one wants and we over pay them to come in desperation, as we already have about 6 players we can not get rid of
