Former West Ham midfielder Diego Poyet has revealed his disappointment after a move to San Lorenzo was blocked by Argentinian Football Federation rules.
The 21-year-old mutually agreed to terminate his contract with the Hammers on deadline day in a bid to find a new club.
The son of former Sunderland manager Gus Poyet, revealed via his twitter account that he was “gutted” that rules had prevented him from joining the Primera Division giants.
Poyet posted: “Gutted not to be able to join San Lorenzo because of n football federation rules. I would like to thank the directors and the Manager Diego Aguirre for their interest in me. I wish the club all the best for the season ahead and hope to play for them one day.”
Poyet made ten appearances in all competitions in his two years in East London. He signed from Charlton Athletic, but is now free to join another club outside the transfer window.
On leaving on Irons he said “I have enjoyed my two seasons with West Ham and would like to thank the Club for giving me the opportunity to fulfil a dream of playing in the Premier League,” he said. “However, following discussions, it was agreed that we would mutually terminate my contract to enable me to continue my development elsewhere.”
