Scoring four goals in five games itself is a pretty respectable return for one month, quite possibly enough to trigger a ‘player of the month ‘nomination. When the player concerned happens to be a defender who has contributed significantly to the side winning four out of those five games then the accolade is truly deserved.

All in all, it’ll be a pretty deserving Dinos Mavropanos who will, by all accounts collect the Sky Bet Championship player of the month award for September when it is announced tomorrow, according to exWHUEmployee:

“We can confirm that West Ham have had a double swoop of award wins this month. Manager Nuno Espirito Santo has won the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month award for September 2026. Centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos has also won the Sky Bet Championship September Player of the Month award.

‘West Ham’s Nuno Espirito Santo wins Sky Bet manager of the month for September award

“It was a great month for the Hammers, which saw us get 13 points from five unbeaten matches, scoring 18 goals. Mavropanos scored four goals in those five games, and this would have gone a long way in helping his chances.

These award wins should be confirmed tomorrow.”

For Nuno, too, the award comes for turning around a dismal start to the season with points dropped in August’s opening three games into a super September through which West Ham remained unbeaten in the league.

From nineteenth to top – briefly – is a pretty rapid turnaround of form.  The West Ham manager now has a chance to extend the unbeaten run in the league to seven if the Hammers can prevail over visitors QPR tomorrow night.

We just hope the international break’s three week hiatus doesn’t cause a change in tactics, form, results or points gained: West Ham can albeit briefly go back to the top of the table with a win tomorrow night and throw the pressure back on their competitors.

Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.
