He might not have been front and centre of the West Ham media team’s coverage of the squad’s return to training on Monday, but scratch below the surface and it would seem the lesser-spotted Niclas Füllkrug was present.
Despite lots of pictures and footage showing Jarrod Bowen and Konstantinos Mavropanos in various phases of their get-fit-quick routine, somebody had to do a bit of detective work and go full Sherlock Holmes to find a picture of the former Germany international training.
Not In The Pictures… But Definitely There
Now it has to be said, as Claret & Hugh revealed yesterday, just because somebody, as in the case of Maxwel Cornet, didn’t feature in the club’s promotional material doesn’t mean they weren’t there.
Despite the fact that Niclas Füllkrug wants to find another place to call home, and manager Nuno Espírito Santo has no role for him or future at the London Stadium next season, the player still has to get himself fit.
Still Waiting For A Way Out
As Claret & Hugh revealed last week, there have only been two offers so far for Füllkrug, neither of which includes a transfer fee.
Hardly surprising given the striker’s horrendous injury record and the fact you could count on one hand the number of goals he has scored over the past two seasons.
We were told a month ago that West Ham were holding out for some sort of transfer fee for the big German, but it would not surprise me in the least if that stance has now softened.
Time To Cut The Losses?
Unfortunately, the €27 million the Hammers paid Borussia Dortmund for his services appears to have been money badly spent.
It is probably time for West Ham to cut their losses.
In the meantime, no doubt Füllkrug will continue working hard throughout pre-season in the hope that somebody is willing to take a punt on him.

Was it 27mil? Or the also reported 20mil. With some add-ons, that never occurred?
