Wilson replacement | West Ham’s Golden Boot target chase stalls

West Ham need to recruit a replacement for Callum Wilson if – as seems likely – the Hammers’ single season striker signs for Brentford after becoming a free agent today. Wilson seems likely to make the jump back to the Premier League in a bid to find the five goals he still needs to join the Premier League’s exclusive ‘100 club’.

Koppen – en route but still not in situ at West Ham United

Whilst West Ham’s appointment of head of recruitment Nils Koppen crawls towards the finishing line, the Irons are out of the race to sign Wilson’s successor, according to the dailymail.com last night:

Dom Ballard –“The former Southampton striker enjoyed a sensational campaign for Richie Wellens’ side, winning the League One golden boot with 23 goals as the O’s survived on the final day of the season.

West Ham have also shown interest but their pursuit has been delayed while they await the appointment of Nils Koppen as their new head of recruitment.”

Bristol City, apparently, are now in pole position to sign the 21 year old Guildford-born centre forward.

Ballard has long been on West Ham’s list but the hiatus in West Ham getting their recruitment house in order risks losing him – as well as other midfield and winger targets – whilst the Championship competition strengthen their squads ahead of preseason beginning next week.

Time to get a wiggle on.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.
