Hammer Bowen starved of ball as England win

|

Three Hammers were involved in international action last night with Alphonse Areola spending time on the bench for France in their 2-1 defeat of Holland.

Jarrod Bowen, of course. made his first appearance at Wembley Stadium completing what he described as a boyhood dream.

Sadly, although he made a couple of contributions which came close to goals he was often starved of the ball in an England team which appeared to prefer playing down the left.

Even when he moved more centrally he saw nothing like as much of the play as he does for the hammers and  – although it isn’t in his nature – had the right to feel a bit peeved at the end of the 90 minutes.

That in itself showed manager Gareth Southgate wanted to find out more about him at international level, having used five subs in the second half.

The Three Lions now have a Uefa Euro 2024 qualifier against Italy on Tuesday night.

Dinos Mavropanos in action for Greece against Ireland

Dinos Mavropanos helped keep Greece remain very much in the picture for Euros qualification as they beat the Republic of Ireland 2-0. Victory means Greece now have twelve points from six games to sit second in Group B.

At Under-21 level, Academy goalkeeper Krizstián Hegyi was a starter for Hungary in their 3-1 defeat by Scotland in qualifying for the 2025 UEFA Under-21 Championships.
