Five days remain for West Ham United to conclude their transfer business and bring in another three, four or perhaps five players to provide even a modest squad for Nuno’s campaign.
Having failed to tempt last season’s loanee Axel Disasi to drop down to the Championship, West Ham have a problem clearly evident in their loss to Charlton last weekend: Kilman and Mavropanos as a defensive duo just don’t work.
Who’d have thought it. The porous pairing that failed last season – under Graham Potter’s management – are struggling again this season. Cue a late scramble for a replacement which should, arguably, have been the top priority for this summer transfer window.
News came yesterday afternoon of the Hammers’ latest attempt to plug the gap left by Disasi- reported by yahoo.sports, who claimed Everton’s defender Michael Keane was now a West Ham target:

No mention is made of the player’s preference, plus of course there’s no intel as yet about any other Premier league side coming in for Keane late in the window. Price is not mentioned but with a transfermarkt.com valuation of just €3 million, he’s going to be at a very West Ham friendly price and could easily slot straight into West Ham’s back line.
Another player wanted 3 years by Moyes but no longer wants.
This is not a Disasi replacement or plug gaps signing it’s penny pinching.

Some of these are players we’ve been linked with for years. We’ve all the changes in recruitment staff I can’t help to think that Koppen is receiving instructions from Sullivan on who to buy. As well as paying off the bank loans it wouldn’t surprise if Sullivan has called in some of his loans as well (no idea if any outstanding though?)
The failure to get Kilman out of the club may well haunt us for another season . Fundamentally he was the major reason why we were so poor before Xmas last season which was the reason for our relegation . I am afraid to say that he is an absymal defender and causes mayhem with his fellow defenders . HE MUST NOT BE SELECTED IN THE SQUAD EVER AGAIN . Give him a free transfer . The loss is astronamical but in the long run will be much cheaper that the cost of us being in Championship or division one if he plays . Nuno had identified the problem but seems to have a short memory ( or is he plain useless ?). Keane is not great but 100% more reliable than Him .
If we can’t get or are not prepared to spend the money for a younger defender of proven quality, then this guy would be a good short term bet. If that also means we then have the funds to buy Austbo and a decent left back then for me it is a good bit of business.
Stinks of being broke
A very average defender who is prone to as many mistakes as Mav. Although, already i can see the huge gulf between the Premier League and the Championship and so he might just be able to cut it for another season. Shame if this is as far as Kloppen’s reach goes. He hasn’t shown me he with one transfer that he is the man to take our club forward recruitment-wise

Disagree, the problem is Mavropanos and its always been him. He overachieved in second half of last season, but soon reverted back to mean as the new season started. We should have sold him in June for an inflated price. Kilman played fine without the Greek disaster next to him against Southampton.

He’s no better than the two we have, look elsewhere. Koppen must have an extensive list of players for all positions required by now
Everyone sites Craig Dawson as the defender at the end of his career that nobody wanted but turned out to be good. But Dawson was still 30 years old when he signed for West Ham. Four years younger than Keane.
David Moyes made a comment once about when it comes to defenders he prefers them to be older and experienced but even Moyes thinks Keane is too old for his squad otherwise he’d give him a year extension wouldn’t he? He has a contract til June 2027. Or is it just about giving Keane a free transfer for his last year in football as a favour so he gets to play.
Michael Keane was an ok defender in his day but he’s nearly 34 now. Has he got the legs still?
Not great slow no resale value , we need younger more energetic players with pace . We are looking at older slower players which will blow up in our face. I’m sick of the board already no ambition . DK has spent little and risking promotion. Jokers sick of it.
Is this a joke…sell or give away on loan our best players and replace them with Keane and Nelson…doesn’t sound like a club building for an immediate return to the premiership to me, specially with the FB we were supposed to be very interested in and battling with Wrexham for Kiome going to Wrexham for 8m…
