With the average age of West Ham’s squad now thankfully back in the sub – 25 range, the signing of young talented players with a high ceiling like Edvin Austbø has hopefully shown the direction of travel for West Ham’s recruitment policy.
Following the huge profits generated by selling Fernandes (21) and Summerville (24), recruitment director Nils Koppen is evidently tasked with digging up a star of the future who can cut it in the Premeir League rather than merely relying on ‘recycled’ older talent.
The Championship challenge does demand older heads too, with Joel Velthma being a case in point, but long term success both on and off the pitch comes from buying players with potential, on an upward path.
Hence the report suggesting West Ham have another young talent earmarked for a move in the next window: Young Polish midfielder Marcel Regula, according to thehardtackle.com.
