Hammers linked to new striker target

|
Speculation that West Ham will move for for Espanyol striker Borja Iglesias has been knocked down by the player himself. It’s very early for the silly season to get underway but it seems that according to some media outlets the 26 year old has caught the eye of Hammers scouts.

There’s a £28 million price tag attached to him and so far this season he has scored 10 goals in 21 starts in the Spanish league.

However, it seems he has no interest in leaving the country although it’s still a pretty tenuous connection anyway with none of our regular sources agreeing that he is simply one our scouts have watched.

We were told by a senior source via a text message: “We watch hundreds of players in the course of a season and if one name escapes into the public domain it immediately gets the ‘their bidding’ treatment.”

In reality the club are still interested in Celta Vigo’s Maxi Gomez who has a €45 release clause in his current deal.

And in the meantime Iglesias talking to AC has made it clear he has no interest in leaving Espanyol despite alleged interest also from Everton.

He said: “I see myself here and there is no reason to think otherwise, I am happy and I have a contract,” Iglesias told AS.

However, it’s unlikely to end there given his form last season when he grabbed 23 goals while on loan at Real Zaragoza last season, taking his goals record to 35  in his last 69 appearances.
