Hammer Winston Reid’s proposed loan move to Major League Soccer’s Nashville SC has fallen through.
The 31-year-old was on the verge of joining the MLS newcomers and was poised to undergo a medical.
Nashville are reported to have pulled out due to concerns over his fitness and past injury record.
Yesterday David Moyes confirmed the report saying “Winston is still here, he is still training, still working towards possibly going to America but we have not got that confirmed yet. The club he was due to go to is off but I think there might be somewhere else for him.”
He is understood to have also held talks with MLS clubs, DC United and Sporting Kansas.
The New Zealander centre back joined the Hammers from FC Midtjylland for £3.78m in August 2010 on an initial three-year contract.
Comfortable at right-back or centre-back, Reid moved to Denmark at the age of ten, representing the Scandinavian nation at U19, U20 and U21 levels. H
He the whole of the 2018/2019 after suffering a knee injury and an operation and has struggled to regain his fitness ever since.
After a 16 month absence, he made a small comeback with a couple of games pre-season in Austria and China and has featured a number of times for the U23’s. He has a contract with West Ham until June 2023.
We need leaders, he is one, should be in the team in the centre of the back 3 with Diop to his right and Ogbonna to his left. A great back 3 in my opinion. Reid is a great reader of the game.
You really think after nearly two years out, he’d be able to go straight back into Premier League football? You’re living in dreamland!
