Hammers rule out defender for Saints game

David Moyes’ decision at central defence for the game at Southampton became more difficult last night when Angelo Ogbonna was ruled out for the game.

The player took a knock during the game against Fulham and came off early, but we have learned that hw is not likely to recover in time for the game at St Mary’s.

The manager will be forced to assess the situation with Kurt Zouma who has been suffering flu symptoms close to Sunday whilst it remains too early to assess Craig Dawson’s dead leg.

Ben Johnson is available but is no natural central defender and should the worst come to the worst it maybe that Declan Rice will need to return to the central defensive position in which he grew up with the under 23s.

However, the resilient Daws can be expected to do everything to play after showing last season that he was capable of playing through the pain barrier,

A Hammers source told CandH: “Oggy is not ready and will be a few weeks minimum.”
