Hammers target set for London move

|

West Ham target Sam Johnstone appears set to join Crystal Palace on a free transfer from West Brom this summer.

The Athletic reports that the England international is closing in on a move to Selhurst Park as he prepares to leave the Championship club.

Johnstone is poised to sign a five-year contract at Palace, with Patrick Vieira’s side moving ahead of both Spurs and the Hammers in the race.

Tottenham are instead set to sign Fraser Forster from Southampton, while the Irons are likely to sign Alphonse Areola after his successful loan move from PSG.

The Hammers actually made a bid for Johnstone last summer, worth around £10m, before they signed Areola from the French side.

He will now be returning to the Premier League with Palace, after the Baggies failed to win promotion back to the top-flight. They ended the 2021/22 season in 10th in the second tier and will again be aiming for promotion next season.
