West Ham have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Diego Costa with just hours to spare on deadline day claims the Daily Express. The Spaniard is a free agent and is yet to find a new club since agreeing a mutual termination of his contract with Atletico Madrid. The player parted company with the La Liga leaders at the end of 2020, six months before his contract was up in the Spanish capital. Costa has received offers from Brazil, China and Turkey but is yet to make a final decision on his next club.
According to Italian beIN SPORTS journalist Tancredi Palmeri, West Ham have now been offered the chance to sign Costa.
He claims the player has been proposed to the Hammers in the final hours of the transfer window as their search for a forward draws to a conclusion.
Sources close to the club have denied interest in the 32-year-old saying Chelsea are in fact favourites to re-sign but as he is a free agent the transfer deadline is meaningless to any poropsoed deal.
Reliable Guardian Journalist Jacob Steinberg on Twitter backed this up by saying “Just to kill this one dead, West Ham are not trying to sign Diego Costa”
While the Daily Telegraph’s in the know Jason Burt added “West Ham‘s transfer deadline day work is done. David Moyes wanted Jesse Lingard deal and looked at strikers – not Diego Costa – plus a couple of younger prospects and will now go with what he has got for the rest of the season.”
