West Ham have an option on Javier Hernandez which if activated by the club could keep him at the London Stadium beyond next summer. The Mexican striker joined West Ham in July 2017 on a three-year contract but an option clause was inserted should the club decide to extend his stay.
A report by Football.Insider today suggested that up to three MLS clubs could move for him in January paying around £4m on a lower wage.
However, a senior club source told Claret and Hugh this morning that a decision had yet to be taken on the striker and the club still carried an option on his contract should they wish to exercise it.
The source speaking exclusively to CandH by Email said: “We can’t predict his future at this point but we do have an option on him, they all want to pay zero”
Perhaps, if he knows he’s going, his efforts may improve so as to attract another club.
Hernandez playing off Haller on paper sounds lethal. Personally for the games he’s played, I think Hernandez’s goal ratio has been pretty good, but it’s the wage that everybody focuses on. I’d love to see us play 2 up top with Hernandez or Ajeti playing off Haller. The more I hear people talk about three at the back, the more I like the idea primarily because I think it takes pressure off our weak full backs to defend, It adds a ball playing defender in Rice and we have a bunch of really creative attackers that can play in a variety of positions. Something like:
Fabianski
Fredericks – Rice – Balbuena – Diop – Masuaku
Anderson/Antonio – Wilshere/Noble – Lanzini/Fornals
Haller – Hernandez/Ajeti
And there’s still Yarmolenko and Snodrass who can both be effective in several positions.
Good shout on having 3 at the back. I think this could work..the only problem is Pelle likes his teams to play 4 in defence.
We have sold a few players for less than we should , in the balance if we do sell I would expect around 8-10 million . However with a better attack he may well start banging then in so let’s wait and see but I trust Pelligrini to make the correct decision either way !
There is potential for him to form a productive partnership with Haller if Pellgrini opted to play 2 up top.
As that is unlikely and, assuming that he wanted to stay, I would be surprised if we would triggered that option.
We need two strikers up front where they can feed off each other . 4231 doesn’t give them that . We need a system that leaves us with the strikers having options . Put Rice in central defense with Noble & Wilshere in a midfield line up of four . We need to change our shape because we are awful in defense and not that great in midfield and even worse in attacking the opposing goal . Time for a 442 in my opinion . With the supposed talent we have in our squad ( everyone from fans to pundits are forever alluding to it ) that system should be able to defend and score . Our survival success last season was due to employing 442 . Why have we gone backwards? .
I think he’s still worth keeping, he is a great finisher. If he wasnt having to play up top on his own so often he would be a real asset in my opinion and contributed to many more goals.
