How we rated the Irons v Watford

|

Here’s Hugh’s ratings

Fabianski: Two outstanding saves and another top performance – no chance with pen or second goal 8

Zaba: Barely put a foot wrong and got forward well whenever he had the chance 7

Balbuena: Little option but to bring his man down for pen then injured – just not the Paraguayan’s day 5.5

Diop: Generally commanding at the back and had to be against some quick one touch passing 7

Masuaku: Let’s face it, he’s a disaster as a defender – got forward well of course but little in his final balls 5

Noble: Subbed early in the second half for Carroll but did little wrong and led from the front 6.5

Rice: Usual commanding performance at the back – always cutting out danger and finding the important out ball 8

Anderson: Grew into it during the second half with some fine runs and touches but more required 7

Snodgrass: Non stop action from the Scot – he’s right up there as one of our top men 7.5

Antonio: Saw an effort hit the inside of an upright and another well saved. Working his way back to his best 7.5

Chicharito: Misread a couple inside the box in very untypical fashion but apart from that looking the part 6.5

Subs:

Ogbonna: Seamless introduction to the first team after Balbuena’s injury 6.5

Carroll: Getting there but if you are gonna put him on give him some balls into the box 6

Diang; Set up a great chance near the end during a fine cameo 6

One things for sure anyone who doesn’t watch with claret n blue glasses on wouldve known we’d lose! We’ve done well winning the 4 games but Watford was always going to be a proper test as is the rejuvenated Saints!

Bet Hugh watched this on a dodgy internet stream, if he’d been at the game he’d have noticed that Rice gave a number of balls away cheaply. I think AC received balls in the box which is what happens when he comes on, unfortunately at the same time we stop playing football.

    • You would lose your bet as usual. Bobby Moore Upper – see you for Brighton!!!!!

      • I think it’s reasonable to assume that Pellegrini – having used the likes of Dzeko in the past – is not prepared to let Carroll get more and more unfit or stop playing football. Any other view seems foolhardy. I’m not sure you were at the match – I was in BM Upper – if you saw him getting balls in the box that were any use to him but if it encourages you to reinforce your prejudices against me and him feel free to disagree which is a given anyway.

Any other view seems foolhardy.Maybe it was you who was watching on a dodgy stream – I was in BM Upper – if you saw him getting balls in the box that were any use to him but if it encourages you to reinforce your prejudices against me and him feel free to disagree which is presumably a given anyway.

    Give Masuaku a break, Hugh!

    • Just called it as I saw it mate. What was his contribution?

      • Muckracker says:

Masuaku clearly wasn’t as poor as Balbuena, (whom it can be argued cost us the game today) or Noble, Chicharito and many others, but you still scored him lowest, as usual.

You couldn’t find actual fault in his performance but you labelled him a disaster cause you just got to slate him. I mean, going forward, whose final ball had anything in it today anyway? Think about it.

        • No it’s just that we don’t write 500 words or so on ratings. Defensively he was poor time and again and when he did get forward there was no end product. I think contrary to what you say that is finding fault with his performance. Unless you can show me otherwise I’ll stay with that. Balbuena was the last on the scene trying to stop what had gone before and not been dealt with and fell awkwardly in the challenge and is now injured as a result. Yes I have thought about it and Masuaku is played as an attacking wing back who is supposed to have an effect at the other end of the pitch and didn’t. Was there one cross for Carroll ? I was assessing him individually not by comparison – the others are also assessed in the same way so there we are. Perhaps you would like to think about it and try to take on other points of view without becoming needlessly unpleasant. I assume you mean because rather than cause – which is a word used to discuss the source of of something. Two words with entirely different meanings
