Compared with many of the names thrown around this week, the possibility of West Ham buying in another young, up and coming winger talent sounds positively enticing alongside some of the less glamorous names in world football with whom the media have linked a late move.
‘Needs must’ and all that – and there’s little doubt that further squad places filled with more of the same as Piroe, Veltman and Solomon would mean the Hammers could fashion a workmanlike, functional team to put together a Championship push.
But it hardly quickens the pulse.
Which is why ExWHUEmployee’s latest transfer update holds out an enticing ray of hope with the suggestion that, far from turning away from the more costly options, West Ham are redoubling their efforts to lure one particular up and coming ‘gem’ to east London:
“The winger situation is interesting because we like Reiss Nelson and clearly we expected him to be released so this is why we held off on the deal but now that he has been released it seems we are still very keen on Edvin Austbø of Viking.
“This deal is proving harder to conclude but is one we have continued negotiations with today and one we really want to get concluded. He is seen as a really exciting prospect and one that could give us a real attacking edge”

West Ham, you’ll remember, were reported as having an £8 million bid knocked back for Austbo.
The trouble is, the winger scored a cracking goal and his side Viking qualified for the Champions League proper last Wednesday night. Which makes a move to England’s dour second tier as appealing as a RyanAir flight for those used to Virgin Atlantic Upper Class.
However, just for once, let optimism run free until Reiss Nelson lands at London Stadium, in the hope that just ‘perhaps’ West Ham have enough cash in the transfer kitty to persuade Viking to part with their young, pacy ‘electric’ winger.
He’d certainly be one set to fill Crysencio Summerville’s boots and offer the same level of excitement for fans and team mates alike.
I agree with Peter. out of Edvin Austbq and Reiss Nelson surely we have 2 go 4 the 21 year old 2 fit in with the other youngsters, and instead of a 3 million ”Bench-Warmer” because lets face it that’s what i think that Nelson would end up as.
Same as we’ll miss Mukasa he looks 2 have progressed really well. so what’s stopping us from seing if we can buy him back.stranger things have happened after all lol. C O Y I’s

Shoulda, coulda, woulda we are two bob in the transfer market, ok we have found our mojo in how to sell a player but acquiring them we have often been clueless and this window is embarrassing
Why doesn’t anyone ask their sources for an explanation of our transfer strategy
Deal being held up mmmm i think its us holding it up by not paying the fee the club wants…we insist on getting every penny for our players so why should other clubs not…..hope i am wrong but i think we will hear that this is a hard transfer to complete so in the end we went where we all know its going..To Nelson another Gunner injury prone cast off..anyone rmbr Freddie and his pants! he was a crock and we got him and put him on £80 thousand a week..we never learn
Also if WHU not promoted, Bowen leaves, then best be prepared just in case.

Edvin Austbø, seems a shoo-in to a younger WHU team. By all accounts a skillful, intelligent player, which goes well with the likes of Mukasa, Engels, Orford,.. Same as Golambeckis they always looks calm, because able to read the game. Obvioulsy, would want to see more of them, to know better & see how they develop. Reckon, we’ll miss Mukasa when he leaves.
