Irons reality check – we have been in very decent form

ClaretandHugh’s ratings man and occasional blogger Niall McDonald has a habit of keeping things very much in perspective and doesn’t become overwhelmed by the flood of negativity which often affects our club. And in a Claretandhugh Facebook Group assessment, he makes a point that needs to be remembered by all of us as we head into a week which will see us at Everton on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup and Leicester City on Sunday. Daunting games but Niall sends a reminder about where the team stand on form over the last weeks of the 19/20 season and the opening three games of this season.

The win over Wolves is the latest in a growing string of very good team performances, with a number of excellent individual displays.
If you tried to discount the poor games since March – Wolves after lockdown and  Newcastle first game of the season –  I think we’ve played pretty/very well.
We had beaten Southampton and Chelsea at home,  drawn at Man Utd, should have beat Newcastle away when we don’t usually get a point there, were unfortunate away at Spurs, ran Arsenal very close last week and enjoyed comfortable wins against Watford, Norwich and now Wolves.
Last night was brilliant – especially seeing Wolves’ revolving door of substituting foreign import for foreign import without any increase to the threat on our goal
We can never count our chickens of course, but things are heading in the right direction and not just since last night.
