Irons to hold Moyes talks but have breakdown options

|

Rafa Benitez remains in the running to become West Ham United’s 17th manager over the next month but David Moyes is far from out of the frame.

The Newcastle manager has had an often difficult relationship with club owner Mike Ashley and – as we reported earlier – has refused to commit his future to Newcastle.

But the Hammers board – despite silly  speculation they want rid of Moyes and have orchestrated a media campaign to spread that message – are ready to discuss new terms with the Scot.

Other candidates are in the frame because Moyes himself is showing uncertainty over whether he wants to remain at the club and thus there is a determination not to be left without options.

The Scot made it clear even today that he needs to be certain he and the club have common aims before making any agreeing to stay.

Suggestions of an anti Moyes move are nonsense with both sides having willingly agreed a six month deal and break clause which ensures neither are tied to each other. Discussions will start on Monday.

The club has a list of candidates – headed by Benitez – to turn to should the talks break down.

Others in their thinking are believed to include Manuel Pellegrini, Uni Emery, Marco Silva and Thomas Tuche but Moyes remains in pole position and will be the first to discuss terms.

I don’t think Pellegrini will be any good either. At Man City he had a team of galacticos and only just managed to keep them in the top tier of the league. What is he going to be able to do with a team like ours??
