Irons want Barcelona icon

West Ham want to do a deal to sign Jordi Alba from Barcelona in January, according to a new report.

The Spanish outlet, Fichajes, reports that the left-back is on his way out of Camp Nou, and the club are said to be keen to move him on in January so they can receive a transfer fee.

Alba is 33 and has been a huge star at Barcelona, winning La Liga five times, the Spanish Super Cup five times, along with the Champions League. He has also won the Club World Cup.

In total, Alba has played 441 times for Barca and Fichajes claims West Ham are showing interest in signing the veteran in January.

They are said to see the Spain international as a key option to strengthen their backline, but one has to wonder if it really makes sense.

The Irons signed Emerson Palmieri from Chelsea in the summer and also still have Aaron Cresswell, although his contract expires at the end of the season.
