Journalist | West Ham targeting deal for Summerville replacement

One of the more evident issues Nuno Espírito Santo has to address with his ‘unbalanced’ West Ham United side is a replacement for departed winger Crysencio Summerville. The Hammers looked lethargic and one-paced at Ibrox and desperately in need of a winger to work on the opposite flank to Jarrod Bowen, as Summerville did last season.

With no Adama Traore who left at the end of last season, the Irons’ cupboard is bare with no pacy players on the books to step up for the Championship season that is under two weeks away.

Journalist Alan Nixon has provided an update on a target previously named as one whom the Hammers were looking at and covered by Claret and Hugh three weeks ago. As reported by the 72.co.uk:

“Now, reporter Alan Nixon states one man being eyed by the Hammers is Sorba Thomas. The Stoke City winger enjoyed an excellent 2025/26 campaign with the Potters and could be primed for a move elsewhere amid a valuation in excess of £10m.

The Irons are willing to pay to replace Summerville and Thomas would be open to the move, it is added. He has two seasons left on his contract at the bet365 Stadium having penned a three-year deal upon arrival from Huddersfield Town last summer.”

Thomas is Championship ready and offers the ability to create goals and chances for team mates at a time when the Hammers looked short on inspiration against Rangers”

“Deployed on the left, Thomas proved himself as a dual threat of goals and assists. He is an excellent crosser of the ball and dangerous from set-pieces, while looking to cut in from the left and unleash shots or put in deliveries on his stronger right foot.”

Which is all well and good: ‘Time for action, not pontification, West Ham: Get it done’ is the cry which 50,000 season ticket holders and millions of supporters will be stifling, as pre-seasosn winds up and the Championship hurtles towards an incomplete West Ham squad.
