Kouyate update

|

kouyateCheik Kouyate is on his way back from Afcon after Senegal were knocked out but is unlikely to be available for the Irons Wednesday evening’s clash against Manchester City.

The midfielder has suffered some bashing and bruising during the tournament and will need some medical attention and rest before returning for first team action.

Co chairman David Gold confirmed that Cheik was on his way back after the nation’s defeat by Cameroon and indiated when the player will possibly be ready for action again.

He tweeted: “Senegal lost to Cameroon on penalties so Papi Cheikhou should be returning in the next few days and could be available for Southampton. dg”

Should that be the case it seems likely skipper Mark Noble will be back on the bench at St Mary’s as Kouyate continues this successful midfield partnership with Pedro Obiang.
