‘Kudus would fit the bill’ | Report suggests good news for Hammers

From comments in todays Guardian, Jacob Steinberg, along with the rest of us, has bought into the narrative that West Ham need to sell in order to buy. And buy they must with seven first team players on their way out of the club.

Which means the funds from a sale of biggest sellable asset Mohammed Kudus are sorely needed as the recruitment team sit on their hands, penniless, whilst other clubs deal. However poor this situation looks for West Ham, the reality is that the cash strapped irons need cash to buy players.

So ‘good’ news- if you accept that Kudus will have to be sold – appears on the horizon as another Premier League club is today reported to be focussing on the Ghanaian in the summer window.

Newcastle United were hoping to recruit a new right winger – Brian Mbuemo was the top target -but as footballinsider247.com reported today, Eddie Howe’s side has had to have a rethink. Mbuemo appears to be Old Trafford bound so the spotlight has now moved squarely onto West Ham’s winger:

“Kudus would fit the bill for that one, obviously left-footed, inverted, he can score goals and create goals…..Missing out on Mbeumo, is a big blow to Newcastle, because Eddie Howe had made him his top target.  But with Mbeumo seemingly choosing Old Trafford over St James’ Park, they’re going to have to move down their lists to see who else they can potentially bring in. ….Kudus, could be a good natural fit for Newcastle”

Which means more competition for Chelsea and potentially a better sale price at the end of it: There were fears that, with Arsenal only considering underbidding at £50 million, the Hammers would be left high and dry with no sale for Kudus and therefore no transfer funds this summer.

Newcastle’s interest will breathe new optimism into the West Ham transfer team providing of course that this interest converts into cold hard cash.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970.. Don't take my comments too seriously, imagine we are having a chat at half time over a pint at L S and "let's disagree without falling out".

How the hell can West Ham have no money to spend ? What utter bs,even with psr regulations forgive me but haven’t West Ham just released loads of players freeing up wages,do we not play week in week out in front of a packed house ? Do we not receive millions each season in tv revenue ? Have we not got Premier league prize money for finishing 14th ? So how the hell can we not even make 1 bid for a player untill someone is sold ? Utter bs,this club is a joke, run like a Circus.
We will always be Mickey Mouse till Sullivan leaves….Embarrassing

Obviously don’t have insider knowledge or nowt, but it was my understanding that Newcastle were viewing a bid for Mbuemo because he’d be a cheaper option than Kudus?

It’s known that West Ham are seeking around £85m for Kudus to join a PL side and Mbuemo (only almost exactly a year older with much more PL games, goals and assists) was available around the £40m region. And I’d imagine there’s a LOT of players they’d have on that list because of West Ham’s demands.

End of the day, Kudus cost us roughly £38m. He’s been with us two years so he’s technically valued at around £23m with regards to making profit.

I’d say that would make Arsenal’s £50m planned offer pretty realistic. If we could get £60m (never mind higher) then we should be seriously considering it. But £85m is ridiculous. If it were manager mode on EA FC where you can control him to be like a football deity then his stats could justify it, but in reality his performances don’t.
