West Ham United are casting an eye over Liverpool’s versatile defender, Joe Gomez, as the transfer window approaches its final weeks. With the curtain coming down on August 30th, the Irons are eager to bolster their defensive ranks with the experienced Englishman
The centre-back , who can also play on either flank as a full-back, has made 224 appearances for the Reds across all competitions, lifting Premier League and Champions League titles among a host of other honours.
Gomez has also managed to pick up 15 caps for England and was named in the Three Lions’ squad that reached the Euro 2024 final this summer, though he failed to make an appearance.
Despite all the positives, a mixture of injuries and serious competition from the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate during his time with the scousers have meant Gomez has never truly held down his place in the starting XI.
With Gomez open to a new challenge, West Ham could face competition from several clubs, including Bayern Munich.
The Irons interest in the 27-year-old highlights their ambition to strengthen the squad ahead of the new Premier League season. As the transfer window enters its final stages, West Ham will be hoping to secure a deal for Gomez to complement their recent signings.
Don’t believe this one to be honest
The price mentioned, his wages and injury record with our limited budget remaining doesn’t feel realistic to me
With his versatility of covering multiple positions a better choice than AWB or KWP.
Maybe not cost effective with his higher price.
Newcastle may also be in the mix.
With our pre season results we certainly need to get more transfers in, a right back, central defender & Jhon Duran all a must. I happy to see some of the deadwood go, Zouma, Cornet & Ings certainly need moving on
Gomez isn’t good enough although does provide some versatility, this Logan Costa looks average who is another player we are linked with, Soulet looks decent as does Todibo am surprised we didn’t get the Milenkovic deal done as he is proven. There seems to be a lack of decent defenders around at the moment.
That’s because they are out of budget, don’t want whu or transferred earlier in window.
Tim needs to find a couple of his gems as a leaky defence will jeopardise signings already agreed.
Todibo is adamant about not not playing for whu.
