London Stadium stewards come under criticism

|

London Stadium stewards employed by stadium owners E20 came under further criticism yesterday after a series of incidents during West Ham’s win over Newcastle.

In one incident in the West Stand over twenty stewards was filmed ejecting a single supporter who had been accused of throwing a coin from block 114 in the West Stand.

Other reports including stewards demanding that supporters sit down and move away from the front of the stands during the Billy Bonds stand opening ceremony.

West Ham’s ribman Mark Gevaux explained  a steward told him to stop banging his false leg against the stand.  The Ribman posted on Twitter “A senior steward came and asked me to stop banging my leg – his exact words were “The Stadium want you to stop banging your leg because the repairs are costing a fortune”  – Told him I’d only bang when we score”

Met Police Officer Andy Sheldon tweeted out post game “Great support from the fans unfortunately one idiot decided he would throw a coin and was subsequently ejected and arrested, he was subsequently found in possession of cocaine. He will be spending the rest of the evening a an 8×8 cell”

After the nonsense last season with the Burnley game, this sounds like a tempest in a teacup to me!

If the rib man is regularly causing damage, why does he persist with his “banging”? It’s very hard to fathom the irresponsibility and attitude of some people.

Perhaps I’ve missed the point, but what ‘criticism’ have the London Stadium stewards come under? You’ve written about one verified event where a coin chucking coke head was ejected, another where there are ‘reports’ of stewards apparently doing their job by asking fans to return to their seats and a third where a prominent supporter claims he was asked not to bang his prosthesis against the fabric of the stand. Where is the criticism?

Stewards come under a lot of flack but if you want to pile on, perhaps you could choose your causes is little more astutely… this reads as pretty petty stuff.

A single solitary suppporter was ejected from the stand. Meanwhile nearly sixty thousand other fans behaved themselves perfectly. At least the met police officer is chuffed he had something to do during his shift.
