A list compiled by the BBC shows West Ham now charge the highest for football mascot packages in the Premier League after Everton decided to abandon their scheme were they were listed as the most expensive in the top flight. That leaves West Ham now top of the mascot price table with prices of up to £700 against the top teams.
Defending the current Hammers mascot scheme a club insider explained there is a two year waiting list to become a West Ham mascot and packages against lesser teams are as low as £300. The mascot package includes corporate hospitality and tickets for two adults and the mascot, a photo/meet and greet with the players and a tour of the dressing room in a three hour mascot programme. The insider said it was not fair to compare at the West Ham mascot package against other Premier League teams which include much less.
West Ham also give away one mascot place to Charity every home game. The insider insisted the club will not be following Everton in abandoning the Hammers mascot scheme.
Personally I think the prices are shocking, pricing so many kids out of being mascots. It would take nothing for the club to do it for a fraction of that cost, or like some clubs do it for nothing. Anything to make money, it’s the way the game has gone I’m afraid.
