A very odd moment arose during West Ham’s battle with Millwall this afternoon, midway through the second half when Millwall’s goal keeper appeared to hold onto the ball for about twelve seconds: West Ham thought they’d been awarded a corner as a result, with the ball ending up in Millwall’s net only for the “goal” to be chalked off.
This was a head scratcher to fans and TV viewers as well who couldn’t understand why a drop ball resulted, in favour of Millwall’s keeper Filip Marschall.
It turned out- as has already found its way into the headlines, (independent.co.uk) that there had been some alleged unpleasantness off the ball that the TV director – and many fans in the ground – missed:
“Millwall goalkeeper Filip Marschall alleged that West Ham forward Taty Castellanos spat at him during the meeting of the London rivals at The Den on Saturday.
The incident came during the second half of the derby and as goalkeeper Marschall delayed releasing the ball from his hands while his side were leading 2-0.”
Many fans had voiced their concerns over Taty’s temperament after the fiery Argentinian’s string of yellows suggested he’s not one to keep a lid on it when the stakes are high.
Referee Paul Tierney took no action at the time
That incident will surely go to the FA who, if he’s found guilty, can impose a six game ban should the video evidence be compelling after match referee Paul ‘I didn’t see anything today‘ Tierney sends in his match report. If it’s true, then frankly he deserves whatever punishment is heading his way.
Hammers fans may remember the same punishment being meted out to Arthur Masuaku in 2018.
Kante went from hero to villain in 15 minutes at The Den
In addition, Mohamadou Kante will receive a suspension for his second half straight red card although if memory serves me right this will be ‘just’ a one or two game ban: All in all the Hammers could pay a pretty heavy price for their hard-earned point at The Den this afternoon.
If there is no evidence found and he is not guilty then what happens to the person accusing does he get a six week ban.Dont hang him out until we see the evidence,if he did then he deserves what he gets if there isn’t then there should be serious implications the other way
Absolutely nothing to be seen here on that so called spitting incident,if anything there keeper should be getting a ban for being an absolute cheat…
Regarding Kante thats the best red card you’ll see all season,the lad made a mistake but his actions got us a hard earned point in a game where we weren’t at the races for a long time,so fair play to him,plus the fact he scored a cracking goal as well…
I honestly cannot see how he spat as he was too far away from Marschall and (from what I saw) his head was facing downwards too. However, if he did spit then he deserves all he gets and I am a Hammers fan through and through.
The ban for denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity is one game, Kante will miss the next game.
I’ve seen the video of it and I couldn’t see anything that looked like spitting, I’d be surprised if it was upheld.
Yet to see any evidence of tatty spitting sky was all over this with close ups and found nothing
