Moyes defence of footballers unjustified

I was surprised that David Moyes put head above the parapet to defend professional footballers who have broken strict social distancing rules.

The manager told reporters in his pre-match press conference that those in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones and it was unfair to single out footballers when we probably out knew someone who has broken lockdown rules.

I don’t agree! politicians, ascelebrities and elite sportsmen and women know they are under constant public scrutiny and they should remember they are role models for thousands if not millions of young people.

What they do in the privacy of their own homes and in their private time is their own business to a large degree but why flout their activities on social media.

This is the real problem with photos of them are published by themselves or others online giving the impression that they are more important or special than anyone else.

If any of us broke social distancing rules I would hope we are intelligent enough not to brag about it by posting a photo online.

This is a chance for young celebrities and elite sportsmen to set an example to the young generation and do the right thing.
