Moyes sly dig at West Ham owners

|

“West Ham are a club who should be competing, and have the capabilities to do so.” says former West Ham manager David Moyes speaking to the Daily Mirror

“But last year was the first year I think West Ham have really spent to do so. prior to that, we took over when there was a lot of difficulties and unrest around the group. We calmed it down and more importantly for the group we made sure there were no problems with relegation.

“Our plan was to go in and work with the players we had and get them through the season. We brought in one centre-forward, Jordan Hugill, to cover Andre Ayew and Diafra Sakho, who had gone [in the January window].

“We had to find a way of winning quickly and making sure we weren’t going to be in difficulty. But also understanding that as well as a short-term picture, you were always hoping there was something long-term as well.

“We really enjoyed our time there and were disappointed when we didn’t stay. But that is the owner’s choice, he has the ability to do that. There are no hard feelings, we enjoyed it and I enjoyed living in London.

“It shows maybe if there is a short-term fix, I can do it, because we knew at West Ham we had to go in and have a quick hit.”

Claret and Hugh say:

This seems a not so subtle dig at the West Ham owners by Moyes which suggests that he should have received more investment while at West Ham. Bizarrely he gives the example of Jordan Hugill who is reported to have cost the Hammers £8m in a transfer fee and £33,000 a week wages.  With no buyers for the striker this summer, the club offloaded Hugill on loan to QPR this week for 60% of his wages and questions still need to be asked why he was signed in the first place in 2017 when QPR at that time had been reported in an attempt to buy him for £1.2m before the Hammers swooped in with their mega transfer and pay deal.

There are conspiracy theories on the deal which we wouldn’t repeat here for legal reasons but whatever the reasons for the transfer it does bring in question what Moyes what would have done with a £90m  kitty should he have been given it instead of Manuel Pellegrini.

Not sure it is, seems more disappointment than malice, Hugill apart they did a good job in difficult circumstances. Am really happy we got MP but wish Moyes well, he is a step up from Big Sam, Bruce, Pullis et all of the British managers imho he is the best of them.
