You couldn’t make it up. Callum Wilson was released by Newcastle United in June, as they decided he was not fit enough to be offered a new contract after two full seasons injured in the last five years. Wilson was then picked up by West Ham as a free signing on a short term deal to replace Michail Antonio who did not accept the short term deal offered to remain at London Stadium.
Reality being stranger than fiction, there is now a report that Michail Antonio is set to sign for – Wilson’s old club Newcastle United. It was a whisper we heard this afternoon but footballfancast.com have provided the substance to the story that West Ham’s record goalscorer may be signed and used by Eddie Howe’s side as a battering ram impact substitute- with the intriguing prospect that Wilson and Antonio could meet again, representing each others’ old clubs. Crazy.
Their report sets out the details:
“Now set for a new challenge, the 35-year-old could be a financially advantageous short-term option to bolster Newcastle’s forward line”
Antonio scoring against West Ham? I wonder what odds you’d have got on that happening in December last year after Antonio wrapped his Ferrari around a tree and almost died. An incredible story with best friends Wilson and Antonio possibly trading places. Sounds like a movie script.
Now I don’t believe this for one minute! Thank god the new season is about to start. Enough of all this nonsense!
Its a funny old game as they used to say
No we don’t mate …. Troy deeney threw Antonio’s name out as the type of player we need to replace Wilson being a solid prem experienced striker.
We are getting Wissa …..who is so much better anyway.
