Mark Noble has told the media to stop “going on” about how many goals Sebastien Haller may score this season.
It’s understandable of course to focus on a striker who has scored three goals in four games for the club at a club which has struggled for goals for so long but the central message of Mark’s message appears to be that it can only create pressure for the £45 million signing. .
With three of last seasons forwards having now left the London Stadium it is diffiult not to highlight the differences between what we are seeing now compared to 2018/19.
And Haller’s start has drawn widespread acclamation across the fan base and the media at large as a result.
It’s easy to understand the point Nobes is making although it will probably have little effect should the Frenchman continue to keep rattling in goals and producing the kind of top level performances we have seen so far.
Noble said at https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2019/september/05-september/mark-noble-just-let-sebastien-haller-enjoy-his-football: “He doesn’t need the media going on about how many goals he is going to get! He has got three at the minute, so let’s let him keep finding his feet.
“He’s got three in three, so let’s hope he keeps enjoying it and not put pressure on him. To replace Marko Arnautovic we needed a very good player and Seb has done well for us.
“He has scored a couple of similar goals and we worked a lot on that type of movement and that sort of pass from Arthur [Masuaku] and the big man was there again to tap in. It was a really well-worked goal.”

Asked how he had settled in the skipper added: “He speaks good English, which helps, and he’s a great lad who wants to learn, wants to play, wants to win and I said at the time [of his signing], this club needs to move on from bringing in players who are here to, sort of, live in London and earn a bit of a payday.
“We need young, enthusiastic players who are going to want to be here and play for the Club for a long time, and it seems to be the case with him.”
Spot on Nobes. How long before TV commentators start deciding which ‘big club’ he ought to go to? Martin Tyler on Sky will soon be droning on about who Haller is being ‘linked with’ when he can’t think of anything useful to say about the game (which is most of the time).
